Prepare Your Vegetable Garden for Winter.

I'm writing this article especially for folks who live in Arizona, and perhaps it will apply for any vegetable gardener living in any of the southern U.S. States.
The following is the routine I do every year after I harvest my vegetables.
September:
I get my winter vegetables in the ground.
At this time of the year the sun doesn't have the same power it had during the summer months and because of this, there is very little evaporation so I don't water my vegetables as frequently as I did during the summer months.
October:
This is the month I plant winter bedding plants or any plant that can take a little frost. One of my favorites is a Verbena. Most years it will even bloom through out the winter.
November:
This is a good time of the year to use cover protection for your roses and citrus trees.
Here in Arizona, a cold frost snap can occur anytime from late November through to early February. So, I make sure I have all my sensitive plants and trees protected before an unexpected early frost.
I hope some of these suggestions are of help.
Mary.
